Patient Devices
This module helps you keep track of medical equipment and devices that have been issued to patients. It allows you to record exactly who received what item, when they received it, and whether they are still actively using it.
When Do I Use This?
- When a patient is sent home with medical equipment (like a CPAP machine, blood pressure monitor, or crutches).
- When you assign long-term wearable monitors to a patient.
- When you need to check if a patient has already been issued a specific device.
- When a patient returns a loaned piece of equipment to the clinic or hospital.
How To Use
Issuing a Device to a Patient
- Go to the Health menu and select Devices.
- Click the + New button.
- Search for and select the Patient.
- Select the Product (the specific type of equipment) from your inventory list.
- Give the device a descriptive Name.
- Set the Issue Date to the day the patient received the item.
- Ensure the Active box is checked.
- Click Save.
Recording a Returned Device
- Find the device record in the list and click to open it.
- Uncheck the Active box to show the patient is no longer using it.
- Add a comment in the Note field (e.g., "Returned in good condition on [Date]").
- Click Save.
Field Descriptions
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Patient | The person who is receiving the medical device. |
| Name | A short, identifying name for this specific assignment (e.g., "John's Wheelchair" or "Holter Monitor 2"). |
| Product | The actual physical item being issued, selected from your standard product/inventory list. |
| Issue Date | The calendar date the equipment was handed over or delivered to the patient. |
| Active | Keep this checked as long as the patient is using the device. Uncheck it when the device is returned or no longer needed. |
| Note | Any extra details, such as the device's serial number, current condition, or special instructions given to the patient. |
Tip: Always type the manufacturer's Serial Number in the Note field. This makes it much easier to track down the exact piece of equipment if there is a recall or if the item is lost.
