Prescriptions
The Prescriptions module allows healthcare professionals to order, manage, and authorize medications for patients. It organizes multiple medications into a single official document that can be reviewed, signed, and provided to the patient or pharmacy.
When Do I Use This?
- When a doctor needs to prescribe medication during or immediately following a patient consultation.
- When a nurse or medical clerk is drafting a medication list for a doctor to review and sign later.
- When you need to look up a patient's historical medication orders to issue a refill.
How To Use
Drafting a New Prescription
- Navigate to the Health module and open Prescriptions.
- Click + New to start a new prescription.
- Select the Patient and verify the Date (it defaults to today).
- Select the practitioner in the Prescribed By field.
- Under the Lines (Medications) section, add the individual medications the patient needs.
- Click Save to keep this as a draft.
Signing a Prescription
A prescription is only considered final once it is signed. Note: Only authorized Practitioners (like doctors) can sign prescriptions.
- Open the drafted prescription.
- Review the medications and dosages listed.
- Click Sign from the options menu.
- The system will automatically record your name and lock the document from further changes.
Field Descriptions
Prescription Header Fields
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Patient | The person receiving the medication. |
| Serial | A unique, system-generated tracking number for this specific prescription. |
| Date | The date the prescription is issued. This automatically defaults to the current date. |
| Prescribed By | The primary practitioner (doctor/specialist) ordering the medications. |
| Signed | A checkmark indicating whether this document has been officially signed. (Read-only) |
| Signed By | The name of the practitioner who actually signed the document. (Read-only) |
| Note | Any general instructions or comments regarding the overall prescription (e.g., "Take with food", "Follow up in 2 weeks"). |
Prescription Line Fields (Medications)
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Medication | The specific drug, dosage, and form being prescribed. |
| Note | Specific instructions for this single medication (e.g., "1 pill every 8 hours"). |
Tip: Smart Medication Grouping! If you add medications directly to a patient's file from the medication screen, the system will automatically group them into a single, unsigned prescription if one was created for that patient within the last 24 hours. This saves you from having multiple separate prescription sheets for a single visit.
Tip: Auto-filling Instructions! When you add a Medication to the prescription, the system will automatically copy the standard instructions (Note) from the medication's master profile into your prescription line. You can then edit it if you need specific changes for this patient.
