Anaesthesia Overview

This module allows you to define and manage the different Types and Techniques of anaesthesia used in your hospital or clinic. By maintaining this list, you ensure that doctors, nurses, and surgical coordinators have accurate drop-down options when recording patient procedures and surgeries.

When Do I Use This?

  • When your facility introduces a new method of anaesthesia.
  • When setting up the system for the first time so surgical teams can select how a patient was sedated.
  • When you need to hide or deactivate an old anaesthesia method that is no longer practiced at your clinic.

How To Use

Adding an Anaesthesia Type or Technique

You can manage both Types (e.g., General, Local, Regional) and Techniques (e.g., Epidural, Spinal, Intravenous) in the same way.

  1. Navigate to the Anaesthesia section from your main menu.
  2. Choose either Types or Techniques depending on what you want to add.
  3. Click the + New button.
  4. Enter the Name and a short Code for the anaesthesia method.
  5. Ensure the Active box is checked so clinical staff can see it.
  6. Click Save.

Deactivating an Option

If a technique is no longer used, you shouldn't delete it because old medical records might still need it. Instead, you can deactivate it.

  1. Open the Type or Technique you want to remove from your daily lists.
  2. Uncheck the Active box.
  3. Click Save.

Field Descriptions

Field Name Description
Name The full, descriptive name of the anaesthesia method (e.g., "General Anaesthesia", "Local Infiltration"). This is what the clinical staff will read.
Code A short abbreviation or standard medical code used for quick reference and billing (e.g., "GA" for General Anaesthesia, "LA" for Local).
Active A checkbox that controls whether this option can be selected by staff on new patient records. Uncheck this to hide it without deleting past data.
Tip: Keep your Codes consistent with standard medical billing or regional health coding systems. This will make your surgical reports and financial billing much easier to process later!
