Socioeconomic Profile

The Socioeconomic module allows you to record important social, economic, and lifestyle details about a patient. This information helps doctors, nurses, and social workers understand the patient's living situation, identify potential health risks, and determine if they qualify for specific medical assistance programs.

When Do I Use This?

  • During a new patient intake when gathering their medical and social history.
  • When a medical social worker is evaluating a patient's living conditions.
  • When updating a patient's file regarding critical risk factors like domestic violence or substance abuse.
  • When configuring standard lists for Education levels (e.g., High School, College) and Socioeconomic Status (e.g., Low Income, Middle Income).

How To Use

Recording a Patient's Socioeconomic Details

  1. Navigate to the patient's profile and open the Socioeconomic section.
  2. Click + New or edit an existing record.
  3. Select the Patient (if not already selected).
  4. Choose their SES (Socioeconomic Status) and Education level from the dropdown menus.
  5. Type in their current Occupation.
  6. Check any of the risk factor boxes that apply (e.g., Domestic Violence, Drug Addiction).
  7. Add any extra details in the Note box.
  8. Click Save.

Setting Up Education and SES Options

Before staff can select Education or SES levels, a manager or administrator needs to create these options.

  1. Go to the settings or configuration area for Education or SES.
  2. Click + New.
  3. Fill in the Name (e.g., "Bachelor's Degree" or "Low Income").
  4. Ensure the Active box is checked so staff can see it.
  5. Click Save.

Field Descriptions

Patient Socioeconomic Record

Field Name Description
Patient The name of the patient this record belongs to.
SES The Socioeconomic Status of the patient (e.g., Lower Class, Middle Class). This is chosen from a pre-set list.
Education The highest level of education the patient has completed.
Occupation The patient's current job or profession.
Domestic Violence Check this box if the patient has a history of, or is currently experiencing, domestic violence.
Drug Addiction Check this box if the patient has a history of substance abuse or addiction.
Single Parent Family Check this box if the patient is part of a single-parent household.
UXO Check this box if the patient has been exposed to or injured by Unexploded Ordnance (e.g., landmines), a common risk factor recorded in post-conflict regions.
Note Any additional context or details about the patient's social situation that medical staff should know.

Education & SES Configuration Fields

Field Name Description
Name The display name of the status (e.g., "High School Graduate").
Code A short internal code for the status (e.g., "HS").
Description A longer explanation of what this status means.
Active If checked, this option will appear in the dropdown menus for the intake staff. Uncheck to hide it.
Tip: Socioeconomic records contain highly sensitive personal information. Always ensure you are following your clinic's privacy and confidentiality guidelines when updating notes about domestic violence or addiction.
