Pediatric Growth Tracking
The Pediatric module is designed to track the physical development of children over time. It allows you to record key measurements (height, weight, head circumference) and automatically calculates the child's Body Mass Index (BMI), Growth Percentiles, and Z-Scores. It also provides visual Growth Charts to help medical professionals quickly assess a child's health trends against standard reference data.
When Do I Use This?
- During routine well-child visits or physical checkups to record new measurements.
- When a pediatrician needs to visually evaluate a child's growth trajectory over several months or years.
- When screening for potential growth abnormalities or nutritional issues.
How To Use
Recording a New Growth Entry
- Go to Health → Pediatric from the main menu and select Growth.
- Click + New to create a new record.
- Select the Patient from the dropdown list.
- Enter the child's Height, Weight, and Head Circumference.
- Add any relevant observations in the Note field.
- Click Save. Note: The system will automatically calculate the child's Age, BMI, Percentiles, and Z-Scores the moment you save!
Viewing the Growth Chart
Once data is entered, you can view the visual graphs comparing the child to standard growth percentiles.
- Open an existing Growth record for the patient you wish to review.
- Click the Options menu and select Growth Chart.
- You will see three visual line charts:
- Height Percentile
- Weight Percentile
- Head Circumference Percentile
- The patient's growth is plotted as a bright orange line with dots, overlaying the standard reference percentiles.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to view a complete Growth Table showing the historical logs of all measurements taken for this child.
Field Descriptions
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Patient | The child being examined. The patient's profile must have a valid Date of Birth and Gender set for calculations to work. |
| Height | The child's current height, measured in Centimeters (CM). |
| Weight | The child's current weight, measured in Kilograms (KG). |
| Head Circumference | The measurement around the child's head, in Centimeters (CM). |
| Note | Any additional text or observations you want to log regarding this specific measurement. |
| Age & Age Unit | (Automatic) The system calculates exactly how old the child is on the day of the measurement based on their Date of Birth. |
| BMI | (Automatic) Body Mass Index, calculated automatically based on the height and weight provided. |
| Percentiles & Z-Scores | (Automatic) The system automatically compares the child's measurements against global growth reference data based on their specific age and gender. |
Tip: Always ensure the patient's Gender and Date of Birth (DOB) are accurate in their main patient profile. The pediatric module relies heavily on this information to generate correct growth percentiles and charts!
Important: Ensure your measurements are entered in the correct units (Centimeters and Kilograms). Entering pounds or inches will result in inaccurate BMI and chart placements.
