Gender Options
This module allows you to manage the list of genders available in the system. These options are used everywhere in Minerva ERP where a person's gender is required, such as when registering a new patient at the reception or adding a new employee to the HR system.
When Do I Use This?
- During initial system setup to populate standard choices like "Male" and "Female".
- When your clinic or business policy updates to include additional classifications (e.g., "Non-Binary", "Other", or "Prefer not to say").
- When you need to hide an outdated gender category from selection menus without deleting past records.
How To Use
Adding a New Gender Option
- Navigate to the system configuration or health settings area from the main menu.
- Select Genders.
- Click the + New button.
- Enter the Name (e.g., Male) and a short Code (e.g., M).
- Ensure the Active box is checked so staff can see it.
- Click Save.
Deactivating a Gender Option
If an option is no longer used, you can hide it from dropdown menus:
- Open the gender record you wish to hide.
- Uncheck the Active box.
- Click Save.
Field Descriptions
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The full word for the gender that will appear on forms and printed reports (e.g., "Female", "Male", "Unknown"). |
| Code | A short abbreviation used by the system or on compact screens (e.g., "F", "M", "U"). |
| Active | If checked, this gender will be available for staff to select. If unchecked, it will be hidden from new forms but kept for historical records. |
| Description | Optional internal notes clarifying when to use this specific classification. |
Tip: Never delete a gender option if it has already been assigned to patients or employees. Doing so could break historical reports. Always use the Active checkbox to retire old options instead!
