Radiology Module Overview
The Radiology module is your complete digital imaging and reporting system (RIS/PACS). It allows you to manage the entire imaging workflow: from receiving a doctor's request, managing the equipment (modalities), capturing images, dictating clinical findings, and finally generating and signing the official medical report.
When Do I Use This?
- Receptionists/Nurses: When a doctor orders an X-Ray, CT scan, or MRI for a patient and you need to process the request and bill for it.
- Radiology Technicians: When you need to view the list of scheduled patients, perform the scan, and upload or attach the medical images.
- Radiologists: When reviewing patient images, typing (or dictating) your clinical findings, and officially signing off on the diagnostic report.
- Referring Doctors: When logging into the portal to review the final signed report and view attached patient media.
How To Use
1. Processing a Radiology Request
A Request is the starting point. It tells the radiology department what needs to be done.
- Go to Radiology → Requests from the main menu (or create one directly from a Patient's record).
- Ensure the Patient, Requested By (Doctor), and the specific Panel (e.g., Chest X-Ray) are selected.
- Click Generate. This action activates the request, readies it for the technician, and automatically sends the charges to the billing department.
2. Uploading Images & Entering Clinical Notes (Dictation)
Once the scan is performed, the technician or radiologist records the details and attaches images.
- Open the generated Request.
- Click Dictation.
- Select the specific test tab at the top (if multiple tests were requested).
- Type in the Clinical Indication, Technique, Findings, and Impression.
- Under Upload New Images, select the scan files from your computer to attach them directly to the patient's record.
- Click Save & Done.
3. Creating and Signing the Official Report
The final step is creating the document that goes to the patient's file and referring doctor.
- From the Request screen, click Create Report.
- The system will automatically generate a draft report. If you entered "Findings" and "Impressions" during Dictation, the built-in AI will intelligently combine your notes with standard medical templates to write the report for you!
- Review the draft in the text editor. Make any final grammatical or clinical adjustments.
- Click Report Sign to digitally sign and lock the document. Once signed, it becomes available in the Doctor/Patient Portal.
4. Using the Image Viewer (PACS)
The system has a built-in medical image viewer (DICOM viewer) so you do not need external software to look at scans.
- Go to Radiology → PACS or look for attached instances in the Dictation screen.
- Click Open or View Report next to an image.
- The viewer will open, allowing you to scroll through image slices, zoom, and inspect the scan.
Field Descriptions
Radiology Request Form
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Patient | The person receiving the medical imaging. |
| Requested By | The physician or specialist who ordered the test. |
| Urgency | How quickly the test needs to be performed (e.g., Routine, STAT/Urgent). |
| Generated | A checkbox that automatically ticks once the request is officially dispatched to the lab/technicians. |
Dictation / Study Screen
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Clinical Indication | The reason for the scan (e.g., "Persistent cough for 3 weeks"). |
| Technique | How the scan was performed (e.g., "PA and Lateral views obtained"). |
| Findings | The detailed observations made by the radiologist while looking at the images. |
| Impression | The final summary, diagnosis, or conclusion drawn from the findings. |
System Setup (Managers Only)
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Panel & Examination | Pre-configured groups of tests. A "Panel" is what the doctor orders (e.g., "Full Spine"), which may consist of multiple specific "Examinations" (Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar). |
| Modality | The actual medical equipment used (e.g., "X-Ray Machine Room 1"). |
| Template | Standardized text used for reporting. The system's AI can automatically build standard "Normal" templates for your exams to save you time! |
Tip: Automation & Machine Integration: Your Minerva ERP can be configured to "talk" directly to your scanning machines. When you click Generate on a request, the patient's details can automatically appear on the X-Ray/MRI machine's screen (via Modality Worklist/MWL), and the completed images can automatically flow back into this module! Contact your IT administrator if this is not yet active.
Tip: The Patient Portal: Once a report is formally Signed, it automatically appears in the "My Radiology Result" section of the patient and referring doctor's online portal, complete with image thumbnails. You don't have to print or email anything manually!
