Radiology Modalities
This module helps you manage the radiology and imaging equipment (called "modalities") used in your healthcare facility. You can register different categories of machines (like MRI, X-Ray, or Ultrasound) and track each specific machine, including its network address and physical location.
When Do I Use This?
- When your clinic or hospital purchases a new imaging machine and needs to add it to the system.
- When an existing machine is moved to a different department or room.
- When a machine breaks down or goes under maintenance, and you need to mark it as inactive so staff know it cannot be used.
How To Use
1. Creating a Modality Type
Before adding a specific machine, ensure its category (Type) exists in the system.
- Navigate to the Radiology settings and select Modality Types.
- Click + New.
- Enter the Name (e.g., "Ultrasound") and a short Code (e.g., "US").
- Click Save.
2. Registering a New Machine (Modality)
- Navigate to the Radiology module and select Modalities.
- Click + New.
- Fill in the Name and Code for this specific machine.
- Select the Type from the drop-down list.
- Select the Warehouse to specify which department or location the machine belongs to.
- Make sure the Active box is checked so doctors and nurses can select it.
- Click Save.
Field Descriptions
Modality Fields
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The everyday name of the equipment (e.g., "Main ER X-Ray Machine"). |
| Code | A short, unique identifier for the machine (e.g., "XRAY-ER-01"). |
| Type | The category of the machine (e.g., CT Scan, MRI). |
| Host | The network or IP address used to connect the machine to your hospital's imaging system (PACS). Your IT department will usually provide this. |
| Warehouse | The physical location, room, or department where the machine is kept. |
| Active | Check this box if the machine is working and available for use. Uncheck it if it is out of order. |
| Description | Any extra notes about the machine, such as the manufacturer, model, or specific instructions. |
Tip: If a machine is undergoing routine maintenance or is temporarily broken, do not delete it from the system. Simply uncheck the Active box. This prevents staff from booking or routing patients to that machine while preserving its historical records.
