Radiology Requests Overview

The Request module is the central hub for managing medical imaging orders (like X-Rays, MRIs, and Ultrasounds). It tracks the entire process from the initial doctor's order, to billing, performing the scan, capturing clinical dictations, and generating the final radiology report.

When Do I Use This?

  • When a doctor requests an imaging examination for a patient.
  • When a technician needs to upload manual images or review scans automatically sent by the imaging machines (PACS).
  • When a radiologist needs to record their clinical findings (dictation) and generate a final structured report using AI.

How To Use

1. Activating a Request & Triggering Billing

When a new request is created, you must "Generate" it to finalize the order. This step automatically creates the specific examinations and sends the charge to the patient's billing account.

  1. Open the desired patient's Radiology Request.
  2. Click the Generate button from the options menu.
  3. The system will automatically create the required examination records and register the billing invoice.

2. Entering Dictation (Clinical Notes)

Radiologists or technicians use the Dictation screen to record their observations for the scan.

  1. Open a generated Radiology Request.
  2. Click Dictation from the options menu.
  3. If the request has multiple panels (tests), click the tab for the specific panel at the top.
  4. Fill out the clinical text boxes (Indication, Technique, Findings, Impression).
  5. Click Save & Done.

3. Uploading and Managing Images

While connected imaging machines will automatically attach scans to the request, you can also upload images manually (e.g., scanned documents or external CDs).

  1. Go to the Dictation screen of the request.
  2. Scroll down to the Upload New Images section.
  3. Click the file uploader and select the image files from your computer.
  4. Click Save & Done to upload them securely.
  5. To view or remove an image, locate it in the "Attached Images" list and click Open to view, or Delete to remove it.

4. Generating the Final AI Report

After entering your dictation, the system can use a built-in AI assistant to format your notes into a clean, professional medical report.

  1. Open the Request options menu.
  2. Click Create Report.
  3. The system will take your dictation, apply it to standard templates, correct any grammar, and present a formatted report.
  4. Review the report and save. You can later access it via View Report or Update Report.

Field Descriptions

General Request Fields

Field Name Description
Patient The person receiving the imaging examination.
Serial The unique system identification number (Accession Number). This links the system to the imaging machines.
Requested By The referring doctor or practitioner who ordered the scan.
Date The date the request was made.
Urgency How quickly the scan needs to be performed (e.g., Routine, STAT, Urgent).
State The current status of the order (e.g., Pending, Completed, Reported).

Dictation Fields

Field Name Description
Clinical Indication The medical reason or patient history prompting the scan (e.g., "Left knee pain after fall").
Technique The protocol or specific method used to perform the scan (e.g., "Non-contrast CT of the head").
Findings Detailed clinical observations seen on the images by the radiologist.
Impression The final summary, conclusion, or diagnosis based on the findings.
Tip: You do not need to manually upload images if your clinic's imaging equipment (PACS) is integrated. The system works in the background to automatically capture and attach X-Ray or MRI images straight to the patient's record!
Tip: When using the AI Report generation, you only need to type brief bullet points or raw notes into the Dictation fields. The AI will handle turning it into properly structured medical paragraphs based on standard hospital templates.
