Dentistry Clinical Simulation
This module connects the Learning Management System with the Dentistry Patient Records. It allows you to create safe, interactive clinical exercises for students or new staff. By linking a "Template Patient", the system automatically creates a fresh, cloned copy of that patient's file for every single learner. This lets them practice dental charting, treatment planning, and documentation without touching real patient data.
When Do I Use This?
- When training new dental assistants or hygienists on how to enter clinical notes and use the dental chart.
- When testing dental students on diagnosing conditions and creating treatment plans based on a standardized patient profile.
- When running software onboarding exercises so new employees can practice using the system safely.
How To Use
Setting Up a Simulation Exercise
- First, ensure you have a "master" patient record created in the patient registry that contains the base dental chart you want students to see. Take note of this patient's ID number.
- Go to your course in the Learning module and add a new Simulation assessment.
- Select Dentistry as the simulation type.
- In the configuration settings, enter the patient ID into the Template ID field.
- Save the lesson. When a learner starts the exercise, the system will instantly clone your master patient and send the learner straight to their unique copy's clinical dashboard.
Reviewing a Learner's Work
Currently, the system does not auto-grade clinical decisions. You will need to review their work manually.
- Open the assessment results in the Learning module.
- Click the link to review the learner's session.
- You will be taken directly to the student's cloned patient record in "Review Mode" to see exactly what they charted, planned, or documented.
Field Descriptions
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Template ID | The unique system identification number of the master patient record you want to duplicate for this lesson. (Required) |
Tip: Create a dedicated set of "Master Template Patients" with specific scenarios (e.g., "Template Patient - Severe Cavities", "Template Patient - Orthodontics") and keep a list of their IDs. This makes it very easy to build highly specific training scenarios quickly!
