Eruption
Last updated: 2026-03-29
Overview
The Eruption module is a dental reference tool used to manage the standard timelines for tooth development. It allows dental staff to record the average age at which a specific tooth comes in (erupts) and when a baby tooth falls out (exfoliates). This baseline data helps evaluate if a patient's dental development is on track.
When Do I Use This?
- When setting up the clinic's standard reference charts for pediatric dental development.
- When you need to log the expected lifespan of primary (baby) teeth versus permanent adult teeth.
How To Use
Adding a New Tooth Timeline
- Navigate to the Dentistry section and open the Eruption module.
- Click + New to create a new timeline record.
- Select the specific tooth in the Notation Item field.
- Enter the expected age the tooth appears in the Erupts At field.
- If it is a baby tooth, enter the age it should fall out in the Exfoliates At field. (Leave this blank or at zero for permanent teeth).
- Ensure the Active box is checked.
- Click Save.
Updating an Existing Timeline
- Find the tooth in the Eruption list and click on it.
- Adjust the ages as necessary based on updated clinical guidelines.
- Click Save to apply your changes.
Field Descriptions
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Notation Item | The specific tooth you are setting the timeline for (e.g., Upper Right Central Incisor). |
| Erupts At | The age (in years) when the tooth typically breaks through the gums. You can use decimals for half years (e.g., 6.5 for six and a half years old). |
| Exfoliates At | The age (in years) when a primary (baby) tooth normally falls out. This should be left at 0 for permanent adult teeth. |
| Active | Determines if this timeline is currently used by the system. Uncheck this if the data is obsolete. |
Tip: You can enter half-years easily using decimals. For example, if a tooth typically erupts at 7 and a half years old, type 7.5 in the Erupts At field.
