Laboratory Inbox

The Laboratory Inbox acts as the digital receiving dock for your lab. It runs quietly in the background, automatically capturing, acknowledging, and storing raw test results sent directly from your laboratory testing machines (analyzers) or external healthcare systems.

When Do I Use This?

In most cases, the system will automatically process these messages into patient results. However, you will use this screen directly when:

  • You are troubleshooting why a specific patient's lab result hasn't appeared on their chart.
  • You need to verify that a specific lab machine is successfully communicating with the system.
  • Your IT or support team asks you to check the "raw data logs" for a recent test.

How To Use

Viewing the Inbox List (Reports)

This shows you a running history of all data received from your machines.

  1. Go to Health → Lab → Inbox from the main menu.
  2. You will see a list of recent messages. The newest messages will appear at the top.
  3. Look at the Received On column to find messages from a specific date and time.

Reviewing a Specific Message (Forms)

If you need to look at the exact data a machine sent:

  1. From the Inbox list, click on the Message ID you want to investigate.
  2. The message detail form will open.
  3. Review the Message Content field. (Note: The text will look like computer code, which is normal. This is how machines talk to each other).
  4. Click Back to return to the list.

Field Descriptions

Field Name Description
Message ID A unique, system-generated tracking number for this specific transmission.
Serial An internal sequence number used to keep messages in order.
Message Content (Body) The raw data sent by the machine. You will often see patient names, test codes (like CHOL or HDL), and test values hidden within this text.
Source Details (Request) Shows where the message came from. This is usually the IP address of the lab machine or the connection details.
Received On (Created On) The exact date and time the system fully received and saved the message.
Tip: When looking at the Message Content, you might see the characters #015 scattered throughout the text. Do not worry—this is just the system's way of safely displaying "End of Line" so the data is easier to read on your screen without breaking the page layout!
Note for Lab Techs: The Inbox supports both standard API connections and direct instrument connections (like ASTM and HL7 protocols). As long as a message appears here, the connection between your machine and Minerva ERP is working properly!
