Lab Templates Overview
The Templates module allows you to create and store standard, pre-written text formats for laboratory reports and medical results. Instead of typing out the same test parameters or standard medical notes every time, you can quickly load a template and just fill in the patient's specific results.
When Do I Use This?
- When you are setting up standard result formats for common lab tests (e.g., Complete Blood Count, Urinalysis).
- When you want to ensure all lab technicians and doctors are using the same language and formatting for specific reports.
- When updating standard lab procedures or reference ranges in your printable reports.
How To Use

Field Descriptions
| Field Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The full, descriptive title of the template (e.g., "Standard Lipid Panel Results"). This is what staff will look for. |
| Code | A short, unique abbreviation used to quickly search for the template (e.g., "LIPID-01"). |
| Parent | Allows you to group templates. You can link this template to a broader category or main folder (e.g., grouping all blood tests under a "Hematology" parent). |
| Active | Check this box to make the template visible and usable by staff. Uncheck it to hide outdated templates without deleting them. |
| Body | The main content area. This is where you type the actual boilerplate text, layout, or standard notes that will be inserted into the lab report. |
Tip: If a testing method changes, don't delete the old template. Simply uncheck the Active box and create a new version. This preserves your historical records and prevents staff from accidentally using an outdated format.
